Parent Teacher Fellowship: October 2011

On Friday the 21st of October, our school had its annual Parent Teacher Fellowship at the Swanson’s house.  While the parents and teachers conversed with each other about various topics, the kids frolicked around, watched fireworks, assembled around a bonfire, played volleyball and just enjoyed being kids.  Some adults even got into the fun!  We also had a delicious potluck dinner.  The PTF was truly a fun event for all and I can only expect next year to be great as well.

BCS invites families to Open House

Mrs. Becky Hudson, Mrs. Kelly Schoeller, Mrs. Debbie Gay and Mrs. Carolyn Martinson teach in the grade school at Baldwin Christian School. Missing from the picture: Mrs. Rosalie Wieser.

Baldwin Christian School is hosting an Open House on Tuesday, August 9 from 6-8 p.m. The school is located on Hwy 63, one mile north of Baldwin.  Families are invited to stop in and learn how their children would benefit from the classical Christian education that BCS offers.
With the first day of school just around the corner, BCS teachers are busy preparing for the coming year. Mrs. Rosalie Wieser, who will be returning to the middle grade classroom, says she "can't wait to see the 5th and 6th graders take a leadership role in helping our new 4th graders fall into the routine of our class." She is also looking forward to the annual speech meet and trying some new incentives to get students reading and studying Latin outside of the classroom.

BCS School Board strives to keep tuition affordable.
  • The 2011-12 tuition rate for a grade school student is $3,195.
  • Students in the 3-day Kindergarten pay $2,025.
  • Families with more than one student enrolled at BCS qualify for a 20% discount and a 12-month payment option is available.
Baldwin Christian School is a non denominational school offering classical Christian education to students from Kindergarten through the 12th grade.

BCS Students compete in Speech Meet

On October 28, Baldwin Christian School held its first Speech Meet. At the Meet, students in grades 1-12 competed for top ranking against others in their classroom. The winners in each category presented their pieces at an all school assembly on the 29th.

Anne Shaw, BCS rhetoric teacher, said that, 'The annual speech meet is one way of preparing students to communicate with poise, clarity, and confidence. The art of public speaking - not just speaking in public, but speaking clearly, forcefully, winningly - is largely lost in our culture, but for centuries it has been a mainstay, not only of public life but of education.  As students move through a classical education, they learn all of the usual school subjects, but also Latin, logic, and, finally, rhetoric.  Rhetoric is where they take all of the education they've had and fuse it into clear, logical, beautiful communication.'

The award winners in each class were: Sadie Jones (1st place), Joy Webb (2nd place) and Klay Lorentz (3rd place) in 1st Grade; Joel Blumer (1st place), Isaiah Mitchell (2nd place) and Hope Webb (3rd place) in Grades 2 & 3; Gretchen Hunt (1st place), Falyn McCracken (2nd place) and Brianna Bloomdahl (3rd place) in Grades 4-6; Jenna Blumer (1st place), Daniel Baumann (2nd place) and Christina Swanson (3rd place) in Grades 7 & 8; Stephen Hokanson(1st place),  Karsten Halverson  (2nd place) and Aaron Rens (3rd place) in Grades 9-12.

Baldwin Christian School is a non denominational school offering classical Christian education to students from Kindergarten through the 12th grade. For more information, please call the school at (715) 684-2656 or visit the web site, baldwinchristianschool.org.

and Moses Bratrud (grade 12). In all, 290 students from 11 different schools

Prague tournament was their first competition. They are scheduled to shoot in
Stillwater on March 13 and at the Wisconsin State Archery Competition in
Wisconsin Rapids on March 27.

The NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program) is a physical education course
that covers archery history, safety and technique and helps students improve
their ability to concentrate and focus. During training and competition, the
students shoot bulls-eye targets placed in front of an arrow resistant net in
their school gymnasium or other facility. The equipment they use is state of the
art,

Christian High School Ends Year with Festivities

Written by Moses Bratrud

The last week of the school year was a busy one for the students and teachers and Dokime Christian Classical Academy in Baldwin. On May 15, the students presented their 3rd annual Spring Ensemble program. The program's centerpiece was a performance of Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, which the audience favored with a standing ovation. The Mozart piece was accompanied by other selections such as Edelweiss from The Sound of Music, some traditional fiddle tunes, several praise and worship songs, and Chaucer's Prologue to the Canterbury Tales, recited in the original Middle English.

The Ensemble consists of Susan Raihala, violin; Adam Rens, Nellie Raihala, and Angela Steiner, piano; Stephen Hokanson, cello; Abraham Bratrud, guitar; and Moses Bratrud, vocals. The Ensemble is directed by Mrs. Lois Wolfe-Steiner.

After the musical program, School Board President and Bible teacher, Mr. Charlie Hokanson delivered the Commencement Address, based on a text from 1 Peter 3. He exhorted graduating senior Susan Raihala and the other students to set apart Christ as Lord of their hearts. Miss Raihala then performed her senior recital piece, Oscar Reiding's Concerto in G Major. Board member Mr. Kurt Swanson and the teachers presented Miss Raihala with her diploma. She will continue her education at Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown next fall, majoring in accounting.

The following evening, the Dokime students again assembled, this time for an evening out on the town. The evening was dubbed "Protocol" and was the culmination of a month-long etiquette course taught by Mrs. Dana Swanson. The students dressed formally and drove to Minneapolis where they enjoyed a 3 course meal at Nicollet Island Inn and attended a performance of Antonin Dvorak's New World Symphony by the Minnesota Orchestra at Orchestra Hall. Before heading home, the group had dessert at Vincent. It was the end of a great year for the students.

Dokime Christian Classical Academy is merging with Baldwin Christian School next fall and will continue to offer classical Christian education to area high school students, including formal instruction in logic, rhetoric, Latin and New Testament Greek. For more information about the school, please call 715-688-9997.
